Wermundsen Oy history started in 1974 when the Swedish company D.J. Stork Ab decided to found a daughter company in Finland. In the beginning the company was called Oy Stork Ab and it was located in a basement in Sipoo. According to the regulations at that time foreign companies were not allowed to own 100 % of the company and the Managing Director had to be a Finnish citizen. This is why a Finnish Managing Director was appointed and he owned 10 % of the company.

In the beginning one person was employed full time together with one part time secretary who handled practical matters. The company started as an importer and the first suppliers were Trafag Ag from Switzerland and Sirai SRL from Italy.

In the beginning of 1990 the Swedish owner wanted to pull back from the daily business. The employees decided at that time to buy the majority of the company and the Swedish owner remained as a minority owner. The majority of the shares were acquired by the Managing Director Reidar Wermundsén.

When the depression in Finland was at its worst in 1994 the company moved to larger premises in Vantaa. The time in Vantaa was a period of fast growth. The company introduced new suppliers and the employee amount increased to 15 and the turnover grew to 18 Million Finnish Marks. In 1997 the Swedish minority shareholder sold the rest of his stock and pulled back completely from Finland. During this time the company name was also changed to Wexon Oy. In 1999 the company moved to a brand new location in Tuupakka with 1000 m2.

In the beginning of the year 2000 the family generation shift started and was finalized in 2005. At that time the majority shares, which Reidar Wermundsén owned were passed over to his three children. During this time he also retired and his son Juha Wermundsén was appointed the new Managing Director. In the end of 2000 the company grew even further when Gistele Oy from Turku was acquired in 2009 and Solotop from Helsinki in 2010.

A decision was made that the company would expand abroad. Wexon Oy founded a daughter company OOO Wexon in Russia, St Petersburg in 2007. The daughter company had the same representations and products in Russia as in Finland. When Kari Wermundsén was appointed the new Managing Director in 2010 there was also a need to clarify the company structure and the Wermundsen Oy Group was born. Companies that belong to the Group are: Gistele Oy, Solotop Oy, Wexon Oy, OOO Wexon (Russia) and Wermundsen Oü (Estonia). The majority shareholders are the Wermundsén family. In the spring of 2014 Wermundsen Oy opened its newest location in Estonia to be able to serve the needs of the customers in the Baltic States even better. Wermundsen Oy (Wexon Oy) had its 40th Anniversary in 2014. The Wermundsen Group employs about 120 people and has a turnover of approx. 23 MEUR.
